Please, please let this be fake.
I have so much to say about this but I’m still too hungover right now. But check out the testimonials. They’re terrifying.

It is fake! I’m reading back in your blog because you linked to SP today and I like your writing, and I just thought I’d stop in and set your mind at ease. Here’s Snopes.
Mind you, hoaxes and urban legends like this don’t work without a grain of truth to them. It’s still worth a stomach churn, but not a full-on ralph.

Yes, I saw that posted somewhere and was relieved. I forgot to go back and comment on this post, though!
I’m reading Executioner’s Song by Norman Mailer (I am not a NM fan, really, but a friend gave me the book and I was out of things to read so, okay) and Gary Gilmore’s girlfriend was married for the first time when she was 13 or 14. Her father married her to a friend of his. That was in Utah in the mid-70s so yeah, I think this kind of thing might still happen in some places. Gross.
Edited to add that the fact that I look at the mid-70s as not that long ago is probably pretty solid evidence that I am, indeed, getting old.
